What is it used for? i have it on my camera. i dont think ill use it..... but before i say that i have to understand what its used for.
When you are taking long exposures with you camera on a tripod, the mirror lock up prevents camera movement which could cause blurring.
There is a second reason now that we have sensors instead of film. The mirror is locked up to allow you to inspect the sensor and/or use a small puff of air to remove any dust that may have landed on the sensor due to allowing dust to get into the chamber behind the lens where the mirror and shuttter are located
Fotoace might have added that even for short exposures, mirror lock keeps the vibration down.
Other than that, I gave him a thumbs up.
fhotoace is right.. but
on my dslr there is a setting that locks the mirror for 'sensor' cleaning.
