what would be a cool special effect that I could do with a film camera?

no photo shop please
i have my own proceesing lab

There isn't much you can do in the camera except with lighting. There's no color variation, no
special effects of any kind - film is just film. Any specials at all would have to be done in the processing. Unless you do your own processing most labs won't do specials unless you're willing to invest a small fortune to get them done.

You can use filters to add "star effects", graduate the exposure from none to dark (that's the "dark sky" effect).

You can stretch a nylon stocking over the lens to produce a "soft focus" effect

Double exposure is always fun to play with.

You can cut a hole in a piece of cardboard to vignette an image

There are tons of techniques done to film cameras that have been used over the past hundred years before Photoshop..

Take a picture with two of you in the same frame.

Multiple exposures are possible with fully manual cameras. Apply a little tension to the film (on the rewind handle after taking the first shot, then disengage the drive (by pressing the rewind button) whilst simultaneously advancing the film lever. That should recharge the shutter and leave the film in the same frame. Expose again.
