58mm fisheye on a canon lens?

will a 58mm fisheye lens for a video camera fit on a 58mm Canon dslr lens

Wow are you a little confused. There are NO current 58 mm Canon lenses ...there are 50 mm lenses that have 58 mm filter thread on them. There are certainly NO 58 mm fisheye lenses and here is why.

A fisheye lens is usually in the 8 mm to 10 mm range. I think what you are talking about is a fisheye converter that has a 58 mm thread that can be screwed onto a lens with a 58 mm filter thread.

There are many cheap semi-fisheye lenses around. They are not true fisheye lenses. In fact, they are uncorrected (for barrel distortion) wide or ultra wide-angle lenses. For example, if you search the Internet, you will see many 0.25X, 0.3X or even 0.45X lenses claimed to be semi-fisheye lenses. However, they rarely reach the 180-degree coverage - Thank you to [URL Truncated]

If you already have the add-on lens, you will need to do a test and see if the lens you have is really a "fisheye", if you cannot see your feet when you take the shot, it is not covering 180 degrees, so not really a fisheye.

Yeah, ditto fhotoace. Most fish-eye adapters also have heavy vignetting. And keep in mind that you're placing another piece of glass in front of your lens. Hence, their will be reduction in image quality.

The 58mm you are talking about is the filter thread diameter. Yes, if both are 58mm, it should fit.

True fish eyes are extrememly wide angle lenses and their focal length is usually around 10mm and below. Higher than that to around 19mm are the screw on semi-fish eyes which includes the one you are referring to.
