Is the Nikon coolpix L100 a good camera ?

I'm looking in to buying this camera , and i wanted to know does it take fast pictures ?

If by fast, you mean shutter speeds that will "freeze" action shots, yes it will. In the "sports mode" it can be as fast as 1/4000th of a second.

If by fast, you mean will it take continuous shots at high rates of speed, yes it will. In fact in the Sports Continuous setting, it can shoot up to 13 fps to a maximum of 30 frames.

If by fast, you mean with little or no shutter lag, then not really. All P&S cameras suffer from some kind of shutter lag, so you will have to "trick" the camera to reduce that time

It's a nice little camera, but...it lacks an electronic view-finder. You have to rely on the LCD screen which is a draw back if you're in sunlight. Being a long time Nikon man, I hate to say this, but I'd look at the Fujifilm FinePix S1500.It's a well built little camera.I know it's well built because I've been looking at the one on display at Walmart for months. After all this time with people playing with it, it still works !

I have heard good things about this camera. Below are some links to websites, the 1st being to the Amazon web page for the Nikon L100 and you can access over 70 customer reviews of the camera that you can read. The 2nd link is to a flickr page that has some very good macro photos of bugs done using the Nikon L100. Also added some links to some photo dealers in case you were looking for some shopping options.

Hope this helps.
