What camera should I buy?

I want to get a little bit more serious with my photography. I want to know what a good camera would be to get. My price range is upto and around $450. I would like a camera that can give a good shot, take hd movies and have a good optical zoom. Maybe an ultrazoom camera but I dont really want to stake out lots of money on a dslr camera. I dont really want to have to worry about buying lenses or anything like that either. Anyone got any camera recommendations?

Take a look at the page below. It has the digital cameras filtered for optical zoom between 11 to 24x. The Canon PowerShot S5 IS has been a hot favourite for the people getting 'little more serious'. It takes great pics and is known for pretty good video also. It is a slightly old model though.

I am going to suggest an option that cost more which I usually do not do but here I go.....

I would take a serious look at the Pentax K-x, a 12MP DSLR camera with 18-55mm zoom and can do HD Video also for about $550.

I would get a DSLR instead of spending more money on a point and shoot camea. A DSLR has a bigger sensor which means higher quality and the ability to change lenses can be very valuable.

Below I posted a variety of links, a review that includes some sample images from the camera, a youtube link that is a sample video from the camera and while at youtube you can easily find more sample videos and some video reviews of the camera. Another link is to a page in the discussions forums at photo.net where a photographer posted some black & white images done from the camera at various higher ISO settings.

I included some links to some dealers. Some of these dealers have some nice extras, free shipping is very common, and sometimes they are offering a free memory card and/or camera bag. Sometimes you have to click in the "add to cart" button to see the actual price.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
