Nikon D3000 or Canon Rebel XSi?

I am tossed between getting a [used] Canon Rebel XSi or a new Nikon D3000. The used Canon is only one month old and in great condition. But what are the main differences? The price difference isn't but about $50 dollars, so before I make the big switch to my first SLR, what should I know about these two?

Don't know a thing about Canon as I shoot Nikon. The better question is what are you going to shoot ? What is your budget for lenses ? What is it that a point and shoot can't do for you that a DSLR will ?

The Nikon D3000 is just like the Nikon D40, to a point. It's Nikon's lowest grade DSLR, you will need to buy AF-S lenses in order for the auto focus to work (this model does not have auto focus built into the body so you need to buy lenses with auto focus built in, the AF-S)
