Which point-and-shoot cameras are better? Canon or Nikon?

I own a Sony and I am disgusted with the image quality of it, so I am thinking on buying a new camera. For now I want to buy a small Digital Camera and I was wondering which one is better. I think Nikon, but I want more advice.
If you were to buy a camera, based on the picture quality and not some fancy add-ons like smile detector or something like that, which brand would you pick?

CANON or NIKON?

You will have to buy a memory card (SD) to test the two cameras. Your Sony uses a proprietary Memory Sticks

Canon traditionally has had the best variety of P&S cameras.

However, just recently, Nikon has introduced GPS tagging and front projection P&S cameras, so seem to be getting serious in the area of consumer level cameras. The have long had some of the only P&S cameras that are WiFi compliant.

Well I had a Canon Point and Shoot and it took amazing pictures. I am now an owner of a Canon SLR. I am a Canon person all the way. But Nikon does have cameras too, I hear,, although I had one once and had problems with it and returned it.

I bought a Canon A1100is for the simple reason that it had a viewfinder. In film, I was a nikon or Pentax fan, but who would buy a camera with no viewfinder. The reviews give the Canon better marks also.

In my opinion, Canon point and shoots have better image quality opposed to Nikon, Sony, Kodak's etc.
