Questions about Nikon Speedlights.?

1) Will the SB-600 speedlight be able to be used on my Nikon D60?
2) How can I use it so I can use it as an of camera flash? Like, the wired trigger, the SU-4 Wireless Remote TTL Flash Controller, or the SU-800 Wireless Speedlight Commander?
3) Which one is easier to use so that the flash will go off whenever I press my shutter button like the built in flash I have.
4) Does the SB-600 continuously fire if I put my D60 on continuous shots? I ask because I saw on one of the answered questions on the Nikon site that it doesn't do repeated/rapid flash or something like that.

Thanks so much if you can help me!

Best Answer

1) Yes: The SB-600, or any other iTTL flash, is fully supported by the D60.

2) Since the D60 lacks on board Advanced Wireless Lighting you will have to attach an SU-800 (or SB-800/SB-900) to the camera in order to control the SB-600 wirelessly with TTL support. Alternatively, if you can live with adjusting the flash manually, there are relatively inexpensive third-party ratio triggers that'll do the job. The SU-4 is designed for Nikon's old film flash TTL system and so won't work here. By wired trigger I assume you mean like the SC-28 or SC-29 TTL flash cords? Those will work, although they limit how far you can move the flash from the camera.

3) TTL cords are the easiest to use. Just attach one end to the flash, the other to the body, turn the flash on and you're ready to go. That said Nikon's Advanced Wireless Lighting system isn't terribly difficult to learn how to use, and there are plenty of tutorials on the web. The inexpensive ratio transmitters are the hardest just because there is no automation.

4) Continuous shooting is supported by the SB-600. Just take care not to let the flash overheat. "Repeat flash" is something entirely different.

I just wanted to offer this additional information. I am a Nikon user and in the past I have invest in Sunpak flashes that were made to be dedicated to my Nikons.

That is an option you may well want to look into to know all your options. I listed a link to the Sunpak website and also some links to some photo dealers.

Hope this helps.
