on my HP photo printer off of my Canon camera? or does it have to be a HP camera?
Unlike a lot of products that are proprietary, all JPEG images produced by digital cameras are universal and can be used on any current printers to make prints
Yes, there are still a couple of companies out there who are still determined to make proprietary products (Apple, Sony, Olympus come to mind), most are designed to use "standards" established by the computer and photographic organizations
Apple - unique hard drive format.
Sony - uses proprietary memory cards (Memory Stick) and external flash units.
Olympus - uses proprietary memory cards (xD), now ever seems to have seen the light an now can use microSD cards and introduced the 4/3rds sensored DSLR which is a signal that they will never have a full frame DSLR system that will be interchangeable with their present DSLR system
If your scenario was true, then you would see Nikon, Pentax, Sanyo, Pansonic, etc, etc, etc, printers for sale every where and people would have to maintain a printer for each of their brand cameras or buy a new one if they ever changed camera brands
